Trolling Spreads

THE FAST AND EASY SPREAD

What do you do when your fishing partner invites you on an offshore trolling trip on 'his not-so-fishy boat? Well here is a portable method for setting up a trolling spread.

To outfit a boat for trolling, make your own section of premeasured flat-line clips. First, cut a half dozen pairs of lines. Cut the first pair a foot long, then increase the length of each subsequent pair by three inches. Next, splice a loop in one end of each line and tie an outrigger clip onto the other end.

No matter what boat you're boarding, you'll be able to put the line's loop through stern eyes or cleats to set up several sets of different-length flat lines in no time. As long as the boat has outriggers, you've got all the makings for an instant spread.
