PLASTIC - Make it work for you!

Plastics, specifically sheet plastic or polymers, are readily available to boat owners, and today many marine catalogs offer them as a stock item.

Their only downside is price; however, the benefits far outweigh the cost. On my 18' center console, I've used plastic material on many projects, including a custom bait table/transom door.

The reason plastic lends itself so easily to do-it-yourself projects is because it's so easy to work with. A power saw, screw driver, drill, router or hand tool for rounding the edges, and enough sheets of 1/2 or 3/4" plastic and stainless steel screws are all that is needed.

My projects were simple additions that were specifically measured and constructed for my boat. Depending on your needs and the size of your boat, you can construct similar custom additions.

Remember, if you can work with wood, you can work with plastic!
